AWS Practitioner Interview Q&As

Cloud computing has become a basic need for every business in the world, regardless of its size. It has brought a revolution in the business community, as it has transformed the traditional way of doing business in a technology-driven way. Traditionally, we used to do everything manually. We used to hand over files by hand, and we stored all our data in hard drives. It was all good until we realized we can make these things faster and better. These old ways of doing things used to take a lot of time, and things were not that secure as well. With cloud computing, we upgraded it in its best shape.

Everything has become simpler with cloud computing. We don’t need to install hard drives in our computers to store our data, as we have clouds available now. For the public, there are public clouds like Dropbox and Google Drive, which as we see it belongs to a single authorized person, but they are not that secure. There are other types of clouds that we can rent from cloud service providers, and that is what companies do. They use cloud services from a cloud service provider and pay them for those services.

The Best Cloud Service Provider

When it comes to cloud computing, choosing the most suitable cloud service provider is the key. If you don’t select a provider according to your requirements, you will end up regretting it. In general, there are multiple options to choose from, but when you know what your requirements are, you end up with three or four options. Usually, these options will include Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure. Now, the real headache is to choose from these three. This also goes by your needs from a cloud service provider. All three of these options are good enough for any application. They have different cloud services with a variety of options.

Why Should We Use AWS?

The cloud services by Amazon, Amazon Web Services, is one of the best, and there are plenty of reasons to select it for your business. There is a diverse amount of services offered by Amazon, like the EC2 and the S3 services, and many more like these. AWS is not just for the Dropbox and Reddit platforms, but we can also host servers on AWS that work quite efficiently. The main features of AWS include its on-the-go pricing.

AWS was the first company that used the approach of pay-what-you-use. It provides an opportunity for small businesses to use cloud services and make their business better. Another noticeable feature of Amazon is the free tier, and by using which a business can utilize all the services of Amazon for almost a month. These services include EC2 instance, S3 storage and many more exclusive services. The deployment speed of Amazon based machine is very high. It can turn hours of work into minutes. AWS has one of the best identity access management systems that secures all the system data and prevents every type of unauthorized access. The services offered by AWS are highly flexible and scalable.

AWS Jobs & Certifications

There are many jobs available in the Amazon Web Services domain, but you have to be well qualified for those jobs. AWS certification training is a must have for any of those jobs. There are positions like DevOps engineer, full-stack developer, AWS data engineer, AWS cloud administrator and many more. But all of these AWS practitioner jobs require very specific knowledge and experience. Let's look into the questions one can face during an interview and their possible best answers. By looking at these questions and answers, one can have a perfect idea about what to expect in the interview.

  • What are the basic types of cloud solutions/services? Also, mention some AWS products you know are based on these three types.
  • Cloud services have three basic types that include computing, storage and networking. AWS products based on computing are EC2, Lambda, LightSail and Elastic Beanstalk. AWS products based on storage are elastic block storage, Glacier and S3. AWS products based on networking are Route53, Amazon CloudFront, etc.
  • How would you define the relation between region and the availability zone?
  • The region can be defined as a geographically separated area, whereas the availability zones are the inside area of a region.
  • How would you define auto-scaling?
  • Auto-scaling, as the name implies, is the automatic upscaling and downscaling of resources when demand goes up or down.
  • Define all the fundamental components of AWS.
  • The fundamental components of Amazon web services are… Email Service: It is a component that is used to send and receive the email. Route53: It is a web service based on the domain name system. Simple storage (S3): It is a simple storage option that is a very popular AWS service. Identity and access management (IAM): It is an advanced security system by using which you can enable identity access. Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2): It is the computing resources that are provided on demand for hosting applications. CloudWatch: It is an application to monitor other AWS resources, it can alarm you in case of any trouble.

  • Explain the S3 service of AWS briefly.
  • S3 is the storage service of AWS. By using S3, you can save any amount of data from anywhere and have it back any time you want.
  • What does AMI mean?
  • It is the Amazon Machine Image that provides all the information about an application that we need for an instance. It is the basic thing we need to launch an instance.
  • How can we define geo-targeting in CloudFront?
  • It is a great concept of customizing content on the site according to the audiences of different regions. With the same URL, the content will vary for the various audiences from different regions.

  • State all the steps a user needs to do for a CloudFormation solution.
  • You will have to open the existing CloudFormation template or create a new one in JSON. You will now save the code in the repository, which is S3. Now with AWS CloudFormation, create a stack by calling a bucket. CloudFormation will need all the details about the file and give the details like the relationship, order, etc.
  • How would you define the relation between AMI and an instance?
  • AMI is simply the thing you need to launch the instance, and you launch many instances from one AMI. In an instance, there is the complete detail about the hardware of the host computer.
  • What are the parts of an AMI?
  • For every instance, a template for the root volume. Not all AWS accounts can avail AMI, and it is the decision taken by the launch permission. To decide about volumes of the instances, a block device mapping is also there.
  • How can we send a request to the Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)?
  • The request to S3 can be sent through the Rest API, or you can use AWS SDK libraries to send the request.
  • Define how the Amazon S3 is different from the Amazon EC2 service.
  • EC2 is a web-based application hosting service. You can compare it with a machine you can access through the web, and you can run Windows or Linux plus different applications on it. S3 is a database to store data regardless of its size. A user can access it by Rest API by just sending a request.
  • How can we scale on Amazon vertically?
  • We need to follow some steps if we want to scale vertically in Amazon. We need to spin up a relatively larger instance. Pause the instance after that and disconnect root webs volume from the server. After that, stop the instance and disconnect the root volume. There will be an ID, use it, and connect the root volume to the new server.
  • What do you know about T2 instances?
  • These instances work moderately when everything is normal. But when the workload is higher, it boosts its performance and goes to better performance.
